The Kitties |
It was with a very heavy heart I dropped off old Aunty Cat and the 9 month old siblings Kitty-Boy and Abby, two ferals I tamed who were born in a shed at my work. I explained to them that as they love to be outside, they’d be living outside for just over a month at Ally’s Cats in Waterfall while I visited my sister and family in Stratford in Canada.
Home seemed empty that evening without them, but I busied myself with packing for my departure in the morning.
I was taken to King Shaka Airport by a friend who was also taking his girlfriend out to catch an earlier flight to Cape Town. My flight to Johannesburg left at 11:45 and my international flight only departed at 8:30 that evening. I had allowed 7 hours to clear immigration. Last time I flew to Canada I found myself in a terribly long queue at immigration which worried me, so I left plenty of time to do it this time, and it paid off as there were hardly any people going through when I did. It was a breeze.
Watching aeroplanes at Johannesburg Airport |
The plane was less than half full and I was lucky enough to have 2 seats to myself, so being small was at least able to curl up on the seats and nap quite well during the flight. I wasn’t quick enough to get a row of 4 seats to sleep on.
I was a bit surprised just before dinner was served that an announcement was made to close all the window shutters. I noticed the cabin staff hurriedly closing the shutters at the empty seats. I had a peek outside and noticed that the plane had no strobe lights on. I haven’t found out why yet - I must ask someone why the urgency to close the shutters.
