Acclimatising in Stratford : the first few days

Shopping in Walmart
This is the third time I have visited Stratford, Ontario, the centre of Shakespearean theatre in North America, so being back felt very comfortable. The first time I visited was in winter 2007/8.
My previous visit was in July 2013, the same time of year as this time. At home in South Africa, temperatures have plummeted and it's raining while here in Ontario they're experiencing a heat wave with daily temperatures ranging between 25 and 38ÂșC.
While my nephews and I don't mind the heat, my sister and brother in law like it much cooler.

We didn't do much today (Thursday), just went shopping for groceries at the new Walmart. When I was in Stratford in 2013 the Walmart was under construction and there was a bit of opposition to an American company moving in to Canada. People seem to have got used to the idea now I guess.
In the evening when we took the dog for her daily constitutional around the neighbourhood we stopped at a neighbour's who had a small astronomical telescope set up on his driveway. He was waiting for the sun to set to get a good view of Venus which was low following the sun in the sky.

By the time we returned Venus was visible and through the 8 inch telescope we could clearly see two of the moons around Venus. He re-positioned the telescope and focused it on Saturn and I was blown away by the fantastically clear image in the eyepiece. There was Saturn with it's rings. I must ask him if I can try and take a photo through the eyepiece of Saturn. (I never got round to asking)

On Friday I went with the boys to Mc Lennan Bike Park in Kitchener where we spent about an hour before we had to return home because Brad had to work an afternoon shift. I went for a little walk around the grounds then retired to a bench under a tree - no riding for me in this heat! Anyway I thought it better to retain my dignity and stay off the bikes for now.
