On Friday evening we drove to spend the weekend at the trailer near Bayfield, and went to watch the sun set over Lake Huron. When we got to the trailer park, residents had decorated some of the streets with Christmas lights in preparation to celebrate "Christmas in July". The competition was on for the
best dressed lane between the trailers. This lane pictured to the right obviously won!

Early on Saturday morning we drove north along the lake to the Bruce Peninsula between Georgian Bay and Lake Huron, passing many wind turbines and fields of Canola en route. Our destination was Tobemory.

Blue Heron V leaving Big Tub Harbour |

Flowerpot 1 |
Brad and I boarded the
Blue Heron V for a boat ride out to Flowerpot Island which is 6.5 km north of Tobemory and is famous for two natural rock pillars eroded by the waters of Georgian Bay/Lake Huron. The rocks in the area were formed from ancient coral reefs and other rocks under a warm shallow tropical sea, about 425 million years ago. During the last 25 million years, the area was covered and scoured by glaciers up to a kilometre thick. The trip around the island took about an hour and a half.
